a unique experience that emphasizes the soul of everyday objects.

Inspired by the Japanese tradition of honoring the soul of things, he encourages us to treat our possessions with more respect and care.

This concept stands in stark contrast to our throwaway culture, where we thoughtlessly throw away mattresses, bicycles and other everyday objects as soon as they seem to have outlived their usefulness.

Van der Wal’s work calls for a revaluation of objects by recognizing their intrinsic value and the stories they carry. He proposes that by changing our relationship with things, we can take a step towards a more sustainable society. This idea is further reinforced by his use of new technologies such as VR and interactive installations, which immerse us in a reality where objects have feelings and communicate. This can contribute to the awareness that is needed to reduce mass production and waste. Through his artwork, Van der Wal makes us think in a humorous and reflective way about the way we deal with our possessions. He asks questions such as: Why do we throw away old tools and objects that have fulfilled an important function? Could repair or reuse be a better option? His work fits perfectly within 'Man as Creator and Destroyer' by not only highlighting the problems of the disposable economy, but also by inspiring us to pay more attention and be more connected to our things. In this way, he contributes to a sustainable future in which we deal more consciously with the things around us.

SPN-TEC is a collection of 100% recyclable shoes that are deviating from the visual stereotype of sustainable design. They are a derivative of my previous project: PIN-TEC. An average shoe is made up out of 62 individual panels that are glued, sewn or nailed together and that are very difficult to take apart. Making it almost impossible to recycle them. The SPN-TEC  shoes are completely digitally designed and are constructed with zero glue, zero stitches and zero material contamination while still using the same materials as our current everyday footwear.  Each shoe contains an NFC-tag that holds a digital passport for the shoe, containing info on material origins, information on production waste as well as 3d-print files to be able to make repairs or alterations yourself. This tag contains all the info a manufacturer would normally keep a secret to show that SPN-TEC is a 100% transparent project.  The shoes are held together by the SPN-TEC module that contains a ratchet system and 4 cables  that connect to the 3D printed rubber outsole cage. This semi flexible outsole wraps around  spikey PU foam midsoles where the spikes protrude through the cut out holes in the cage to firmly  connect them to each other. These midsoles are poured with liquid foam in 3d printed molds.  Some models have EVA uppers that are vacuum formed and heat welded. A specific structure made out of recycled soda bottles is used to hold the whole shoe together and make it adjustable. The SPN-TEC system introduces a digitally sculpted footwear collection embodying zero material contamination, full recyclability, and complete transparency.  Beyond its sustainability, the collection boasts visual allure, harmonizing eco-consciousness with aesthetic appeal. 2. Social Injustice & Victim Blaming.

How do we as a society deal with violence: do we look the other way, or do we become violent ourselves? And why is violence often only accepted in action movies and games, but not in real life? Blu confronts us with the harsh reality that many victims experience on a daily basis and calls for a dialogue on the subject of 'victim blaming'.

Spider are my misunderstood helpful friends, but they also show that even the tiniest of creatures can make us feel vulnerable and fearful. It’s useless to kill the spider, as fighting fear or fleeing from it only makes it grow bigger and stronger. I no longer flee from my spiders, to embrace them helps me to grow and to accept myself and others as they are.

The Ahaalchinees powerfully depicts the complicated reality of growing up as a transracial adoptee. In the work, the word ‘Chinese takeaway’ takes on a double meaning that is dark but also has a humorous tint. The work is accompanied by robotic works and a menu that delve deeper into the complexities of adoption and identity. The menu has been nominated for the Minerva Research prize, and the entire work has been nominated for the Hannie Schaftprijs. Abel Kamps plays on human values and social norms, with themes such as overconsumption, trust and dealing with death as central. By placing everyday objects in a new light, he questions these subjects and makes them discussable.

jae Park’s work “Ears Become Ear” offers a provocative look at the Dutch colonial past through the lens of material interaction and historical layering. Park, a graduate of the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, explores the slipperiness of complex histories such as colonialism through tactile art and subtle metaphors.
At the center of the work are three objects that each tell a unique story about visibility, concealment, and the resonance of materials.

The first installation uses the structure of moth wings as a metaphor. These wings, powdery and scaly like fish scales, reflect ultrasonic sounds and serve as camouflage against predators. Park compares this natural tactic to telling difficult stories—revealing by concealing, a passive defensive strategy.

The second and third objects—two marble and granite stones—emphasize colonial relations between East and West through their different architectural styles and use of materials. Park’s choice of materials highlights how they differ not only physically but also culturally and historically, suggesting the intricate entanglement of colonial histories.

The interactive video installations complete the narrative by focusing on intangible yet tangible aspects of social injustice. They invite visitors to physically interact, suggesting that understanding complex historical and social dynamics requires an active, almost physical effort.

This multi-layered approach places Park’s work perfectly within the subtheme of Manifestations, ‘Social Injustice’. His art invites reflection on economic inequality, discrimination and marginalization—all of which stem from a past that continues to resonate in the present. Park’s subtle suggestion that we acknowledge the instability of our historical interpretations encourages visitors to consider their own role in these ongoing dynamics, which is essential for a deeper understanding of social justice and inequality.

    3. Technolological Influences and Alternate Realities

Traditional iconography reimagined through digital distortions. Reflecting on the evolving nature of faith, honesty and truth in the digital age. Haakman has long viewed the internet and technology as a beacon of hope, but recent events have given him a darker perspective. His work challenges the viewer to consider how traditional beliefs are changing under the influence of digital advancement.

What was the real reason for Icarus’ fall?
Martin Imler’s artwork ‘Icarus Downfall’ refers to the myth of Icarus and connects it to contemporary issues surrounding space debris and satellites. Imler uses a 5-channel video to track Icarus and the stars in real time. What was the real reason for Icarus’ fall? Martin Imler’s artwork ‘Icarus Downfall’ refers to the myth of Icarus and connects it to the contemporary problems we face around space debris and satellites. Imler uses a five-channel video to track Icarus and the stars in real time. He shows how an aerial perspective affects our view of the world and how our daily use of those technologies create a distance between us and our environment.
The work ties in with current news reports about Starlink, Elon Musk’s internet project, where every eight minutes a satellite falls towards Earth and hits a building, nature or human or animal, which many of his clients resolutely dismiss as fake news.

Imler’s use of advanced technologies such as GoogleMaps and GoogleEarth to illustrate the myths of Daedalus and Icarus highlights the absurdity and danger of these distorted perceptions.
His work shows the duality of technological progress: while technology enriches our lives, it also contributes to the fragmentation of information and the polarisation of opinions. By integrating satellite tracking software, Imler reinserts individuals in relation to the technologies they use, making them face the hidden consequences of these technological developments. This work encourages visitors to think critically about the role of technology in our society, fitting seamlessly into the theme of Manifestations.

Martin Imler’s ‘Icarus Downfall’ is a powerful artwork that not only explores our relationship with technology, but also exposes the mythical and contemporary dangers of alienation and misinformation.

Icks explores how our behavior and lifestyles in a capitalist world alienate us from nature and ourselves. His work reflects on the absurd reality in which humans are both perpetrators and victims. Icks criticizes consumer behavior and the fear-driven society dominated by media and social networks. Before we see the world through AI, we need to know how AI sees the world. Generated.Earth is an expedition to the abstract world model inside generative AI. It consist of large prompt maps of continents that offer an unique set of insights in how these world models misrepresent the world.

Map of Europe and Africa. Here, the areas are represented by AI. This leads to remarkable effects. For example, Normandy looks like D-Day, because when an AI searches for photos of Normandy online, it mainly finds images of D-Day.

Another example: if you look at certain regions, you mainly see images of the products, football stars, election campaigns or dog breeds that come from that region.

Or take the region of the Red Sea: because that is one of the top 10 diving locations in the world, the map shows mainly underwater photos at that location.
North-West England: in this area you see the photo of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian’s daughter, because it has the name North-West and comes up more often than actual photos from that region.

This makes us think: before we see the world through AI, it is important that we understand how AI sees the world.

As funny as these examples may be, each provides an interesting insight into how generative AI works and looks at the world.

We Are Social Rebels and the Municipality of Eindhoven present The Body Shop: a futuristic store where you can explore and discuss the possibilities of body modification. As changing your physical appearance becomes more normalized, questions arise about its impact on self-image and societal perceptions. When I was eleven, I met photographer Y*, a family friend who groomed and sexually abused me. This project tells this story in both words and images. It shows the sexualization of young girls and the mysterious dynamic between groomer and victim. It encourages you to recognize the ways in which we unconsciously avoid or seek out certain realities.

    Bridge between two worlds
The ‘Eye Opener’ exhibition shares the stories of people who have been less fortunate in life. People who grew up in an environment without good resources. The world of the street is not the world of the citizen.
We see the expo as a bridge to bring these worlds closer together.

The stories are meant to make you understand how lives run. That what happens in the young years makes things go wrong later in life.
Why people make wrong choices and find comfort in drugs and other addictions. They are also stories of incredible courage and strength.
Stories that show who and what it takes to make the turn and reconnect with yourself and others.

Like every human being, these people long to be seen, heard and understood. This is an important reason for them to participate in this exhibition. They give an insight into their lives because they themselves have
experienced being stigmatised or not being listened to and they want to help tilt perceptions. They also want to warn others with their story: don’t do what I did.

They share this call in schools, businesses and during street tours, because everywhere there are people who get hurt in life.
